This is the Blogger page about the British broadcaster
Dermot Murnaghan, host of Sky TV’s Murnaghan
show. Read on to find out about his career so far, as well as subscribing to
this page for updates on his future projects.
Having completed a postgraduate degree in journalism at City
University London, Dermot took his first steps into the industry by training as
a reporter at various local newspapers. From there, he made the switch from
print to broadcast, being taken on as a researcher by Channel 4. He subsequently
went on to present a business round-up for the channel.
A successful spell at ITV followed, as he presented the News at Ten where he broke some of the
most important news stories of the decade. From ITV he moved across the
terrestrial networks to the BBC, where he hosted the breakfast show to around
one million viewers each morning for five years from 2002. Whilst there, he
also presented from warzones, filled in on the evening and night shows and
grilled key figures from politics, business and sport.
Since 2007, Dermot has been an important part of the Sky
News presenting team. Every Sunday morning, his show Murnaghan deals with the crucial news stories of the week by
speaking directly to the people involved. Dermot has established himself as one
of the most prominent broadcasters in the Westminster bubble, and his weekly
show holds politicians to account as well as dealing with other key stories
from the past week.
Dermot’s career has encompassed more than just news,
however. He hosted popular BBC2 quiz show Eggheads
for over a decade from 2004, presented BBC’s resurrection of Treasure Island with Suzi Perry and has
also lent his voice to films including Wimbledon,
whilst also playing himself as a newsreader in My Family and Babylon.
